Top 3 Lessons I've Learned Living With Eczema

Here are my top 3 things I've learned living with eczema.

#1 - Topical Steroid Withdrawal is a nightmare

There is probably nothing more soothing to a skin flare-up than a squirt of topical steroids for that instant relief. The guaranteed calming effect of the steroids on the skin, is too easy to get used to. For me, I got hooked, and used it on my face, around the mouth area for years. When the time came for me to wean off, it was a nightmare. I remember feeling discomfort to the point where I just wanted to pat my face down with ice cold water all day long. Additionally, my face was full of white, peeling flakes and was so dry that it was crinkled around my mouth. It took months to heal from this.

#2 - Hearing "stop scratching" won't make it easier to stop itching

Having eczema can mean having lots of itch. For those of you who have suffered from extreme itchy skin know that it takes a great deal of effort not to scratch. Sometimes, there is nothing that can be done but to scratch out the itch. Hearing "stop scratching" will not make it any easier to stop itching.

#3 - Planning your outfit for the next day doesn't always workout

Having eczema can make it difficult to plan out outfits for the next day. It's not a predictable condition. There have been times where I wake up, do my morning routine and get a flare-up. So perhaps instead of wearing a skirt, I might go with slacks.

I'd love to hear what lessons eczema's taught you. Share your comments in the below! <3
